You will find a number of extensions designed to change this, but one of the better, and more recent, is called Momentum, a quick add-on that allows for some interesting customization. You can get started by heading to the Chrome Web Store to download and install it.
Setup and Use
Once installed, you will immediately notice a major change when you click the “new tab” option. A new wallpaper will be present, and in place of your most visited web sites you will be prompted to enter your name in order to personalize the page.
Once you have done this, you will get a new screen that prompts you to enter your to-do list for the day, but also gives you the current local weather for your area which is displayed at the top right of the screen.
At the bottom right, there is a link for “to do” which you can click to add more items to your plans for the day, while the top left contains a link to head into Chrome apps – something that Google chose to remove from the new tab page a while back. Yes, you can access it, but it now resides up in the menu bar, making it a bit more difficult to use. The extension boasts a number of features, including:
To-do list tracks your tasks See the weather for your area Set a goal to focus your day Clean design showcases inspirational photography and a motivating quote “Apps” button takes you back to the default Chrome home page when needed
You can also head over to the website to get answers on things. This contains the most frequently asked questions as well as a way to submit your own ideas for future updates.
In the End
The extension is pretty simple, so I doubt help will be needed. There are no settings, meaning there is nothing to change around. That is both good and bad. Simplicity is a bonus, but it would be nice to be able customize certain options, such as the image for the wallpaper on the new tab page. However, if you are a detail-oriented person – someone who lives on a to-do list, then this is for you. Everything you could potentially otherwise forget is right in front of your eyes whenever you open a tab. It is also easy to setup and use, and the images it provides are certainly examples of beautiful photography. It should be used by anyone who wants a list of things to accomplish when sitting down at the computer. And, like all Chrome extensions, it’s free.
